Planting Day 2009

June 15, 2009

As the sun began to set on a beautiful April afternoon, all I could do was smile at what the men at the mission had accomplished.

Once again, another wonderful display of teamwork, hard work, and fellowship highlighted our day out in the field. We began our day anticipating the arrival of Southern University. They have been working side by side with us on our garden project.

They arrived with a van full of plants and seeds from such a wide variety of vegetables and herbs. After all was said and done, ours rows were loaded with tomatoes, bell peppers, cayenne peppers, cantaloupe, watermelons, black-eye peas, okra, squash, green beans, cucumbers, green onions, mint, scallions, basil, hibiscus, and some other stuff I know I’m forgetting about.

There is something about preparing the land and planting a garden that just brings me back in time and makes me appreciate the God given gifts that He has provided for us. Along with that, the opportunity to see the men enjoying and cherishing the time outside with each other just makes it that much greater!

I encourage everyone to come by the mission and check out how our project is progressing. We are located at 704 W. South Street here in Opelousas, LA.

Got something to say?

Men seek GED here!

I am extremely excited that some of our men are currently working on getting their GED. They study for five days a week, and spend at least three hours each day working through books and other study material.

Education is very important to the success and future of these men, and this is a huge start. I am very proud of the work ethic of these men, and will continue to encourage more to get involved.

Real life change is occurring at the Lighthouse Mission. God is doing an amazing work here!

Blessings,
