About Us
The Opelousas Lighthouse Mission is an emergency and transitional shelter for homeless men. OLM can comfortably accommodate 23 men a night and is open seven days a week three hundred sixty-five days a a year.
OLM provides food, clothing, and assistance with medical and transportation expenses. Men who seek assistance at OLM are expected to help with cleaning, gardening, lawn care and cooking according to the capabilities of each man.
Most of the men work in the vegetable garden which is overseen by OLM with important assistance from Southern University. These programs help men gain work skills, build self esteem and learn teamwork. In addition to providing some income for OLM, the programs help the men gain employment skills that makes them more likely to find productive jobs upon leaving the mission.
We are currently partnered up with the non profit organization called VITA. This stands for “Volunteer Instructors Teaching Adults.” They work with our men on a daily basis through their GED Program. This is a huge asset to our men who seek to further their education which provides more options for them in the future.
Our organization strives to serve the needs of this community with love, patience, respect, and honor. We know what it takes to bring dignity back to a man who has been broken and beat down. I know with the power of God that we can accomplish all of our goals here at the Opelousas Lighthouse Mission!
Blessings,
