Hunters for the Hungry

Sunday, September 23rd, 2012 10am-3pm

In the fall, the Opelousas Lighthouse Mission collects frozen processed game and fish from the previous season to help feed our neighbors in need in Acadiana and the surrounding areas. The Hunters for the Hungry food drive is held annually and local sportsmen and their families are invited to “clean out their freezers” to donate more than 8,000 pounds of frozen processed game and fish to help provide more that 20,000 meals to the impoverished in these communities. This year’s Hunters for Hungry Chairman Bob Giles said, “This is such a worthy cause, meat is the most difficult food item to provide to the needy as it is expensive and hard to preserve.” You don’t have to be a hunter to donate food for this drive and to help this worthy cause.
