Services
The Opelousas Lighthouse Mission serves homeless men without regard to race, color, creed, national origin, mental or physical condition or age.
The Opelousas Lighthouse Mission provides the following servives to help men break the cycle of homelessness:
- Shelter is available for unaccompanied men over the age of 18. Men are housed in a dorm setting.
- Emotional Support is available for clients on an individual and group basis. Some clients are referred to other agencies or support groups for more comprehensive counseling.
- Personal Development classes are taught twice weekly and are mandatory for each client. We teach budgeting and money management, job interview skills, personal hygiene, public appropriateness and many other topics relevant to breaking the cycle of homelessness.
- Job Referral and Employment Assistance is available to each client. Every effort is made to assist men who want to work to find jobs that utilize their skills. Many companies in this community have stepped up and offered jobs to our men. We also work with VITA (Volunteer Instructors Teaching Adults) to ensure that the men who don’t have a GED will one day achieve one.
